The paths to native plant gardening are many and varied, and those who practice it are anything but one-dimensional. There is no single definition of the activity, no dogma, no dominant ethos. […] Gardeners who enjoy native plants do so in their own way […]. They come from many perspectives, represent infinite points of view, and encompass a wide range of gardening philosophies. You don’t have to be a fanatic. You don’t have to give up on your non-native garden treasures. There is no code of ethics, no secret handshake. No oath is required to join the club.

  1. Agreed! No NPN (Native Plant Nazi) here! I just love the ones I have in my Coastal NC landscape…Amsonias, Baptisias, Monarda, Phlox, Rhynchospora colorata (white bracted sedge), redbuds, dogwoods… so many wonderful plants – in the right place!
